Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The Turkish female labor force participation rate is very low, even when comparing Turkey to peer countries. Despite the extensive literature on the determinants of the female labor force participation rate in Turkey, some determinants are under debate. Perhaps more striking, the literature focusses on increasing the participation rate without accounting for the work status women end up in. Many Turkish women are employed as unpaid family worker, which does not lead to the same empowering effect as paid employment. This article investigates the determinants of female labor force participation, employment and employment in ‘good jobs’. It uses a probit model for the determinants of labor force participation and employment. Furthermore, a multivariate logit model is employed for the determinants of different work statuses including a ‘good job’-status. We find that education, traditional gender roles and wealth are key determinants of working in ‘good jobs’ for women in Turkey. |

Abstract :This paper explores the relationship between air pollution and life satisfaction in Turkey. Using cross sectional data, based on data from the TUIK Life Satisfaction Survey (196203 observations) -which provides location of the participants at the city level for the year of 2013- this study aims at investigating the role of objective air pollution on life satisfaction by taking into account individual, location and climate heterogeneity. After controlling personel characteristics, and local variables (climate variables and province dummies), according to ordinary least square regression analysis, a robust negative impact of air pollutions on life satisfaction is found. |

Abstract :Different effects of climate change on ecosystem and biodiversity cause adverse conditions in agricultural activities. Research conducted by FAO, around the world predicts that the decline in agricultural biodiversity due to climate change will continue in the next 30 years and ecosystems will be under increasing pressure. These adverse conditions will complicate agricultural production and limit access to food. The aim of this study is to reveal the expected food insecurity risk in the future by examining the effects of climate change on agricultural biodiversity in the Mediterranean region, where Turkey is located. In this context, in this study, the current situation and future projections of the Mediterranean region in terms of agricultural biodiversity loss and food insecurity were evaluated within the framework of the data obtained by FAO, World Bank, Berkley Earth and Climate Watch. In addition, ecological policies to be taken to prevent climate disaster and ensure food security until 2050 are also included.
